چکیده

Replacing imported soybean meal (SBM) by domestic protein sources such as grain legumes, food industry by-products or novel resource-efficient feeds is a current research focus to enhance the sustainability of ruminant production systems. In addition, grass silage replacing maize can contribute dietary crude (CP) supply well and complies with natural diet ruminants. An experiment 30 Limousin-sired beef bulls was performed diets in which SBM replaced alternative when feeding composed of, per kg dry matter (DM), 500 g silage, 300 200 concentrate. concentrate, (control diet) faba beans, pumpkin seed cake, spirulina (Arthrospira platensis) result on average 226 CP/kg concentrate (DM). A fifth group served negative control, received grain-based only 135 DM. Bulls were fed experimental for entire fattening period starting from an initial body weight (BW) 164 ± 2.3 4.3 0.06 months age. At 275 5.6 7.4 0.17 age, each animal underwent 9-day sampling determine individual N energy intake excretion (7 days urine faeces collection) methane emission (2 respiration chambers). The had no effect DM nutrient intake. Apparent fibre digestibility significantly affected diet, being numerically lowest beans instead SBM. Compared other groups, additional urinary (25.1 vs. 40.3 g/bull/day; 366 460 g/kg total faecal N). Digestive metabolic utilisation comparable among diets. Methane (CH4) adjusted differed highest (547 513 mg CH4/kg BW/day diets). These results show that none tested sources, including SBM, benefit containing complemented Feeding seems provide adequate metabolisable protein. Omitting common supplementation therefore mitigated losses thus likely emissions manure at unchanged utilisation.

Enteric methane emission, diet digestibility, and nitrogen excretion from beef heifers fed sainfoin or alfalfa.

Effects of plant-bound condensed tannin (CT)-containing sainfoin vs. CT-free alfalfa (or low-CT alfalfa-sainfoin mixture), plant stage of maturity, and their interaction on enteric methane (CH4) emissions, diet digestibility, and N excretion were studied, using 8 ruminally cannulated beef heifers in 2 sequential short-term experiments (Exp. 1 and 2). In Exp. 1, first growth legumes were harvest...

Effect of soybean lipid on growth and ruminal nitrogen metabolism in cattle fed soybean meal or ground whole soybeans.

Three experiments were conducted to determine the effect of soybean lipid on ruminal proteolysis of soybean meal (SBM) and ground whole soybeans (GSB). Experiment 1 was a 92-d growth experiment using 120 calves (206 kg) allotted to 12 pens of 10 calves each. Three replicate pens were assigned to each of the treatment supplements: low SBM (LSBM), low GSB (LGSB), high SBM (HSBM) and high GSB (HGS...

Effect of Replacement of Soybean meal by Dried Tomato Pomace on Rumen Fermentation and Nitrogen Metabolism in Beef Cattle

Problem statement: Dried tomato pomace may be considered as an alternative feedstuff in ruminant nutrition. The limited literature data that are available so far may be interpreted as indirect and suggestive evidence for diminished ruminal fermentation and bacterial synthesis after substitution of dried tomato pomace for soybean meal. Approach: Rumen-fistulated beef steers were used to address ...

Effects of a-Tocopherol on Metmyoglobin Formation and Reduction in Beef from Cattle Fed Soybean or Cottonseed Meal Diets1

Hereford-Angus crossbred heifers were fed a cottonseed meal-based diet containing gossypol (14 mg free gossypol·kg body wt−1·d−1; CSM), a soybean meal-based diet (SBM), or a-tocopherolsupplemented diets (4,036 IU vitamin E·heifer−1·d−1 for 90 d; CSM+E and SBM+E). The effects of diet on color stability and aerobic metmyoglobin reducing ability of beef longissimus lumborum (LL) and psoas major (P...

Effects of camelina meal supplementation on ruminal forage degradability, performance, and physiological responses of beef cattle.

Three experiments compared ruminal, physiological, and performance responses of beef steers consuming hay ad libitum and receiving grain-based supplements without (control) or with (CAM) the inclusion of camelina meal. In Exp. 1, 9 steers fitted with ruminal cannulas received CAM (2.04 kg of DM/d; n = 5) or control (2.20 kg of DM/d; n = 4). Steers receiving CAM had reduced (P = 0.01) total DMI ...
